Stephen Smith qualified as a solicitor in 2001.  He trained at a large regional commercial firm, and joined Sharples & Co in 2009.  He specialises in construction and engineering. He has dealt both with providing advice on the drafting of building contracts, consultant appointments and warranties, and also with resolving disputes in relation to construction and engineering projects.

In terms of dispute resolution he has experience of mediation, adjudication and litigation.  As regards drafting he has advised both employers and those providing finance in respect of the construction documentation that should be used for projects as diverse as a factory, a hotel and wind turbines.

He also lectures on the administration of building and engineering contracts in higher education.
